TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. confirmed Monday that the construction site for its advanced packaging facility in Chiayi County remains unaffected by recent flooding.
The chipmaker said all contractor work at the site was suspended in line with the county’s closure of offices and schools due to the extreme weather, per CNA. Emergency crews were deployed to clear drainage systems and secure temporary structures vulnerable to wind.
Localized flooding was reported in several areas of Chiayi, including Taibao, Lucao, and Shuishang, as a low-pressure system combined with southwest winds brought torrential downpours. Concerns had emerged online over whether the flooding had impacted TSMC’s Chiayi facility.
TSMC said the construction site is situated on higher ground and has remained dry and fully functional throughout the storm. It added that while some nearby public roads experienced flooding, water is being pumped out and cleanup is ongoing.
The Central Weather Administration issued a heavy rain advisory for Chiayi County, prompting disaster response measures across the region. TSMC said it will continue to monitor weather conditions to ensure worker safety and protect critical infrastructure.
