TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) met Legislator Takaichi Sanae, a contender for prime minister, in Japan on his way to the World Expo, reports said Friday.
The minister’s presence in Japan was revealed in a Facebook post by Furuya Keiji, the chair of the Japan-Taiwan Diet Members’ Consultative Council, per CNA. A picture on his Facebook page showed six people at the meeting, including Furuya, Takaichi, Lin, and Lee Yi-yang (李逸洋), Taiwan’s representative in Japan.
While few details about Lin’s trip were made public, he reportedly was the first foreign minister to visit Taiwan’s representative office in Tokyo. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not announce Lin’s overseas visit ahead of time.
According to Furuya, senior members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party exchanged views with Lin and Lee ahead of their visit to the World Expo in Osaka.
