TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — China Airlines will launch flights to Phoenix, Arizona, on Dec. 3, with rival Starlux Airlines to follow on Jan. 15.
The southwestern US city has drawn increased attention in Taiwan since Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. began building fabs there. Airlines said the area is expected to become a major technology hub, driving passenger traffic between Taiwan and Phoenix, per CNA.
China Airlines said it will operate the new route using an Airbus A350-900 every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Flight CI036 will depart Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 10:55 a.m. and arrive in Phoenix at 8 a.m. local time.
The return flight, CI035, will depart Phoenix at 10:55 a.m., land at Los Angeles International Airport at 12:20 p.m., and continue to Taiwan, arriving at 9:30 p.m. the following day.
Starlux emphasized that its service between Taoyuan and Phoenix will be direct. Its Airbus A350-900 will operate flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from Jan. 15 to Feb. 28. Starting in March, a fourth weekly flight will be added on Saturdays.
