TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan is expected to see rain, strong winds, and occasional heavy downpours through Sunday as two tropical systems churn near the island, mainly affecting central and northern areas.
Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) said tropical depression Francisco and tropical storm Co-may are being steered by monsoonal winds and are rotating around each other in a counterclockwise direction, per CNA. From Friday through Sunday, northern and central Taiwan will experience rain, while the south will see scattered showers or thunderstorms.
Wu said the latest Central Weather Administration forecast map shows Francisco west of the Ryukyu Islands, moving toward the northern seas with a loose structure. Co-may is heading northeast and is expected to pass over Luzon while gradually weakening.
Temperatures will vary across regions, Wu said, with northern Taiwan ranging from 24 to 29 degrees Celsius and central Taiwan from 24 to 33. The south will see lows of 25 and highs of 35, while eastern Taiwan will range from 22 to 34 degrees.

From Monday to Thursday, the monsoon will continue to affect Taiwan, bringing unstable weather and frequent rain to central and southern areas. Localized thunderstorms are likely, along with isolated severe weather such as lightning, strong winds, and sudden downpours.
Eastern Taiwan will be less affected, with only occasional brief showers. When it is not raining, the weather will remain hot and humid.
The CWA announced Thursday that tropical storm Krosa has formed northwest of Guam, becoming the ninth named storm of the year. Wu said Krosa is moving north and poses no threat to Taiwan.
