TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Ahead of Saturday’s recall vote targeting 24 Kuomintang lawmakers, the Mainland Affairs Council called on Beijing to stop interfering in Taiwan’s democratic processes.
The MAC urged China to reflect on whether it can guarantee its own citizens the right to freely express themselves, rather than meddling in Taiwan’s internal affairs.
The council said Chinese state-run media have produced hundreds of videos and articles about the recall, which have been widely shared on platforms such as Weibo, Douyin, and WeChat. Taiwanese media have further amplified this content, resulting in a layered dissemination of Chinese Communist Party propaganda.
The MAC emphasized that the recall vote is a matter for the Taiwanese people to decide independently and reflects the pluralistic nature of Taiwan’s democratic society. “The CCP has no right to interfere and should not make unwarranted comments,” it said.
