TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Freddy Lim (林昶佐), Taiwan’s representative to Finland and frontman of the metal band Chthonic (閃靈), on Wednesday mourned the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic lead vocalist of heavy metal band Black Sabbath, who died Tuesday at the age of 76.
As tributes poured in from international stars including Elton John, Jon Bon Jovi, and Rod Stewart, Taiwan’s own Chthonic also paid their respects, having previously collaborated with Osbourne, per Liberty Times. Chthonic shared a photo from a past performance at Ozzfest, writing: “With deepest gratitude, thank you Ozzy for what you’ve given this world. Rest well, until we meet in the next one.”
Lim reflected on the experience, saying, “In 2007, Ozzy invited Chthonic to join his North American tour, which featured about 10 heavy metal bands from around the world.” He noted that Chthonic was the only band from Asia, proudly representing Taiwan on the international stage.
Struggling to hold back tears, Lim said, “Just a week or two ago, I rewatched his farewell concert online and was incredibly moved. I never imagined such heartbreaking news would come so soon. I’m truly shocked and deeply saddened.”
He described Osbourne as not only a founding figure in heavy metal but also a godlike presence who remained approachable and warm, affectionately calling him “Metal Grandpa.”
Lim concluded, “Thank you, Ozzy, for everything you’ve brought to the world. I hope one day we can meet again in another universe.”
