TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The US Congressional-Executive Commission on China is set to hold a hearing on China’s political warfare and coercion toward Taiwan on Wednesday.
The CECC accused China of using coercive tactics, threatening Taiwan’s democracy, and undermining US-Taiwan relations to “shape global narratives on Taiwan’s status.”
The commission said it would assess policies to address these challenges and find ways to strengthen US support for Taiwan’s democracy. The hearing will cover four facets of China’s coercive strategy:
- Implications of China’s “22 Articles” under the Anti-Secession Law
- Political and cognitive warfare operations
- Censorship of Taiwanese abroad
- China’s global campaign to shape the narrative of Taiwan
Experts will review these tactics and provide policy recommendations to bolster Taiwan’s resilience, the CECC said. The panel includes Rear Admiral Mike Studeman, former commander of the US Office of Naval Intelligence, and Peter Mattis, president of The Jamestown Foundation.
