TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Somaliland Foreign Minister Abdirahman Dahir Adam arrived in Taiwan on Monday to strengthen bilateral ties.
Adam said Taiwan is an important partner of Somaliland and hoped his visit would deepen the friendship between the two nations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his five-day visit, Adam will hold talks with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍).
He will also sign a coast guard cooperation agreement with Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration and visit the International Cooperation and Development Fund to discuss the current and future direction of bilateral cooperation.
This is Adam’s first trip to Taiwan since taking office in December 2024, the foreign office said.
Since mutually opening representative offices in 2020, Taiwan and Somaliland have continued to boost bilateral relations based on mutual benefit, the foreign ministry said. The two countries have seen fruitful results in education, healthcare, agriculture, and other areas.
The foreign ministry stated that it would continue to work closely with Somaliland to promote the well-being of both peoples and enable regional countries to gain a better understanding of Taiwan.
