TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Hondao Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation held the fifth Journalist Impact Award ceremony on Friday, when it honored Taipei Fubon Bank for its support of media coverage for Taiwan's senior population.
Taipei Fubon Bank has long been committed to protecting the financial security of its elderly clientele and has sponsored the award for four consecutive years. Sponsorship encourages more in-depth reporting on elderly issues, arousing more public attention, and helping promote an age-friendly living environment.
Wang Nai-hong (王乃弘), chair of Hondao Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation, said this year's judges received 252 entries, which covered a wide range of topics like long-term care, dementia, and economic security. Other reporting covered seniors from diverse ethnic groups, the rights of elderly new immigrants, and the elderly with disabilities like visual impairment.
Wang said all of the entries encouraged the elderly to continue learning and embrace a super-aged society with a positive attitude. He thanked Taipei Fubon Bank, KEDP Charitable Trust, Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, and other organizations for their long-term support of the Journalist Impact Award.
Taipei Fubon Bank and Hongdao believe that financial planning is the foundation for a financially stable life. To help the elderly improve their financial management and strengthen asset protection, the "Abundant Life" board game was created, with 2,300 elderly people playing the game in 2024.
This year, the bank worked with professors from Hungkuang University's Department of Senior Citizen Welfare and Long-term Care to adjust the contents of the game to be more in line with the habits and daily life learning of elderly people. Furthermore, collaboration on a seed training program promoted the game throughout Taiwan.
Through trained instructors, "Abundant Life" will be promoted to more communities and neighborhoods. This will sow the seeds of financial education and further promote financial literacy amongst the elderly.
The bank constantly strives to provide outstanding financial services to the elderly, such as trusts, insurance, fixed deposits, and annuities. All of these offerings help the elderly plan for retirement and better arrange asset inheritance.
The bank also produced "Business Cards for Ease of Communication" and "Easy-to-Read Financial Manuals" to assist with these services. These aids help the elderly better understand financial products as well as answer frequently asked questions posed by the elderly.
Another change the bank has implemented is the height of counters in newly renovated branches, which has been lowered for the convenience of the elderly and those with limited mobility. In addition, the newly launched "Fubon+" mobile banking app will automatically enlarge the font size for users aged 55 and above when they log in for the first time.
In response to an increasing number of elderly people suffering from dementia, Taipei Fubon Bank established and trained "Dementia-Friendly Service Specialists" in all 179 branches across Taiwan in 2023. And the following year, it cooperated with Mackay Memorial Hospital to host dementia check-ups for elderly customers.
In the future, the bank will continue to uphold the core values of "integrity, friendliness, professionalism, and innovation" and utilize resources to provide more considerate, flexible, and respectful financial services for the elderly. By working together, Taiwan can build a society that is truly age-friendly.
