TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Professor Yen Ming-hung (顏名宏) of National Taichung University of Education will assume directorship of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts on Aug. 1.
Selected by Kaohsiung’s cultural advisory board, Yen will become the museum’s sixth director, per Artouch. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) praised Yen’s background as an artist, curator, and long-time advocate for aesthetic education, calling him the right person to revitalize the museum’s role in public life, per CNA.
KMFA highlighted Yen’s efforts to integrate art into communities and schools through spatial design, curatorial projects, and creative education. He has worked extensively to bring art into everyday settings.
Chen said the museum is a critical part of Kaohsiung’s cultural landscape and a bridge between citizens and the arts. With the circular light rail nearing completion, the city’s “Greater Art Museum Plan,” linking the museum with Neiwei Arts Center, is now taking shape.
Over the past decade, Yen has led campus renewal and aesthetic education programs for the Ministry of Education, transforming more than 200 schools into distinctive visual environments. Chen said this experience makes him ideally suited to lead the KMFA into its next chapter.
Yen holds the highest diploma from Germany’s Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg and has earned awards at home and abroad. He also brings broad public-sector experience, serving on committees for the Ministry of Culture and National Academy for Educational Research.
