TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taoyuan City Election Committee on Thursday launched an investigation into an alleged breach of administrative neutrality.
DPP Legislator Wang Yi-chuan (王義川) claimed on Threads that official election committee documents were distributed alongside anti-recall campaign materials from KMT lawmaker Lu Ming-che (魯明哲), per RWNews. Wang called on the committee to explain.
The committee responded by urging all officials to strictly observe administrative neutrality and said it would investigate the matter, per CNA.
DPP Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang (林右昌) described the incident as an attempt by the KMT to interfere in ongoing recall efforts, per mnews. The group seeking to recall Lu also condemned the act, calling it a deliberate violation of administrative neutrality.
Lu’s office distanced itself from the controversy, suggesting the materials may have been distributed by supporters acting independently. The office urged all parties to follow the law to avoid unnecessary conflict.
Taoyuan KMT City Councilor Chan Chiang-tsun (詹江村) alleged that the village chief involved in the incident, Chen Chao-fu (陳朝福), is related to Wang, per UDN. Chan claimed Wang fabricated the incident to discredit the KMT.
Chen said the official documents and anti-recall materials were delivered to his office simultaneously. Believing it would be efficient, he initially intended to distribute both but decided against it upon realizing the impropriety of the move.
