TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Summer Festival, one of Taiwan’s most high-profile seasonal events, will begin on Aug. 6 with a month-long lineup of activities across the city.
Programs include fireworks shows, musical performances, and a collaboration with Disney featuring Toy Story-themed street installations. Four themed fireworks displays will be held at Dadaocheng Wharf every Wednesday at 8 p.m., each lasting 300 seconds, according to the Taipei Summer Festival.
The festival will conclude on Aug. 30 with a 480-second grand fireworks finale spanning 800 meters, marking the largest in the event’s history.
In partnership with Walt Disney Company Taiwan, parts of Dadaocheng’s historic streets and traditional shops will be transformed into a retro-style toy store blending vintage aesthetics with playful design. Characters from Toy Story, including Lotso, the Little Green Men, Woody, and Buzz Lightyear, will appear in themed installations around Dadaocheng and Yanping Riverside Park.
A city-organized photography contest will run from Aug. 6 to Sept. 7, inviting the public to capture images of fireworks at Dadaocheng Wharf or Beimen North Gate Square, as well as scenes from Taipei’s commercial districts. Selected winners will receive prizes and may have their work featured in Taipei Metro lightbox advertisements.
From Aug. 7 to 29, daily themed activities will offer visitors a chance to earn limited-edition rewards. On days excluding Wednesdays and Saturdays, participants who complete simple tasks aligned with the day’s theme can visit the Dadaocheng Wharf service counter between 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to receive a NT$100 (US$3.40) discount voucher for the Blue Waterway river cruise and a commemorative temporary tattoo.
