TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The eighth day of the Han Kuang 41 drills included repairing a CM-11 tank, reports said Wednesday.
The CM-11 Brave Tiger was launched in 1990 as the main battle tank for Taiwan’s Army, but was based on components from different US tanks. On Wednesday, the Army used a space near a school in Taoyuan to simulate one of the vehicles breaking down and needing emergency repairs, the Liberty Times reported.
An M88 armored recovery vehicle appeared to raise the hood off the CM-11’s engine compartment. The intervention allowed four soldiers from the Army’s 584th Armored Brigade to climb the tank and simulate the replacement of vital parts.
The brigade earlier took part in training for warfare on the beach before withdrawing to the hinterland to conduct long-term war, the report said. Wednesday’s tank repair attracted attention from the students of a nearby school, which described the event as an example of all-people’s defense.
