TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — YouTube launched its Premium Lite trial plan in Taiwan on Wednesday, offering users ad-free viewing on most videos for NT$119 (US$4) per month.
This new subscription option is a more affordable alternative to the full Premium plan, which costs NT$199 per month. Premium Lite is expected to roll out nationwide in the coming weeks, according to CNA.
The service targets viewers who want an ad-free experience while watching gaming, comedy, cooking, educational, and other non-music content. It supports multiple devices, including smartphones, laptops, and televisions.
However, unlike the full Premium plan, Premium Lite does not include ad-free music content, offline downloads, or background playback. Users may still see ads when streaming music videos, shorts, or while browsing the platform.
A YouTube spokesperson said Premium Lite aims to offer a less disruptive viewing experience while creating new revenue opportunities for creators and partners. The company plans to expand the Premium Lite trial to more countries and regions later this year.
Besides Taiwan, Premium Lite is currently available in the US, Australia, Germany, Thailand, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Turkey, Poland, France, Romania, Spain, Italy, Singapore, Chile, and Colombia, according to Google Support.
