TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s military police carried out a pre-dawn drill transporting troops and munitions on the Taipei Metro Monday, showcasing the US-supplied Stinger for the first time on the MRT.
On the sixth day of the Han Kuang 41 drills, the Military Police Command conducted a resource redeployment exercise using the MRT, per CNA. FIM-92 Stingers, which are used for low-altitude air defense or direct fire in emergencies, were carried during the exercise.
Monday’s scenario simulated an enemy amphibious landing on the coastline. The military rehearsed coastal defense, anti-airborne operations, and precision fire on key targets.
To practice protecting critical infrastructure, the military police joined the Taipei City Government, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, and other agencies at 1 a.m. to conduct troop and equipment redeployment through underground transit facilities. The goal was to test civil-military integration and improve resource flexibility under combat conditions.

At 1:10 a.m., military police boarded the MRT at Shandao Temple Station and traveled to Longshan Temple Station. Along the route, they performed tactical drills inside train cars, stations, and on Wanhua streets.
Taiwan is one of the few countries operating four variants of the Stinger missile system: dual-launcher, vehicle-mounted Avenger, Apache-mounted, and man-portable shoulder-fired models.
The MND confirmed the Stingers were provided through military aid. After the acquisition, the military conducted instructor-level training and expanded operational readiness across relevant units.
The ongoing Han Kuang drills integrate real-world conditions to verify combat effectiveness. The ministry declined to disclose the number of systems or their unit assignments.
