TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Fubon Bank's Anhe Branch launched its first Budding Tycoon Money Management Camp of the year on July 10.
The event was held in conjunction with the Pearl S. Buck Foundation of Taiwan. It invited students from grades three to six to learn more about financial management concepts, financial literacy, and fraud prevention.
In previous years, Taipei Fubon Bank has organized financial courses for children with hearing or speech impairments, those living in remote areas, and other disadvantaged groups. This year, the camp has been extended to include financial education for the children of new immigrants.
Taipei Fubon Bank Senior VP Kelly Kuo (郭佳綾) highlighted the growing integration of children from new immigrant families into Taiwanese society. Kuo added that while these children adapt quickly, some of their parents may face language barriers, as many are not native Mandarin speakers. This can post challenges in communication and limit their access to the full range of financial services available in Taiwan.
To address this, the bank actively engages with new immigrant communities by offering financial education programs. These initiatives aim to help children develop financial literacy, support their families in achieving financial stability and foster greater social inclusion and financial equity.
At the beginning of the camp, Taipei Fubon Braves basketball player Chou Kuei-yu (周桂羽) taught the children the secret to identifying real banknotes. Chou also encouraged students to learn self-discipline in their daily lives. He shared that this was the driving force behind his journey to success on the basketball court, and a vital step in laying a solid foundation for future achievement.
The curriculum of the financial camp continues to evolve each year, offering a comprehensive introduction to essential financial concepts. Topics include basic money management, understanding currency, mobile payments, and basic principles of financial planning concepts.
To deepen student understanding, the camp incorporates interactive training courses and a specially designed board game “Abundant Life.” These sessions help students explore investment strategies and recognize financial fraud, equipping them with practical knowledge to navigate real-world financial challenges.
Students were also invited to play the role of a bank teller, participate in simulated ATM transactions, and other interactive games designed to reinforce financial concepts. Through these engaging activities and guided instruction, students gained practical insights into key banking operations, such as deposits, withdrawals, and currency exchanges.
By learning through real-life scenarios, the program encourages experiential learning, helping students internalize the fundamentals of financial transactions and build a strong foundation in everyday money management.
This year, Taipei Fubon Bank is hosting 37 sessions of its Budding Tycoon Money Management Camp, a long-running initiative aimed at cultivating financial literacy among youth. The free sessions are in high demand, reflecting a growing awareness among parents of the importance of early financial education.
In addition to the camp, Taipei Fubon Bank offers specialized financial accounts for youths. By the end of June, the number of young accounts reached 309,000, an increase of more than 4% over the same period last year. These accounts come with dedicated bank cards and passbooks, allowing users to manage multiple assets, including both Taiwan dollars and foreign currencies.
Launched in 1998, Taipei Fubon Bank's Budding Tycoon Money Management Camp has entered its 27th year, with more than 8,200 participants. Over time, the program has expanded its reach to support disadvantaged children, those in remote areas, and most recently, children of new immigrants. Through these efforts, Taipei Fubon Bank continues to promote financial inclusion and equality across Taiwan.
