TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — United Microelectronics Corporation founder Robert Tsao has left his position in the Whole-of-Society Defense Resilience Committee.
Tsao tendered his resignation as advisor during the third committee meeting this year on June 26, Presidential Office Spokesperson Karen Guo (郭雅慧) said in a statement Friday.
He conveyed to President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) that he will continue to “promote efforts in the private sector to safeguard national sovereignty and security, and to strengthen military, civil, and psychological defense across society,” Guo added.
The committee was established by Lai in June 2024 to bridge the gap between the government and society and facilitate closer cooperation during a national emergency or natural disaster.
The committee consists of representatives from various sectors to formulate strategies aimed at enhancing “self-protection capabilities,” according to the Presidential Office. It convenes once every three months.
