TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Sugar Corp. said Friday it will offer one to three months of rent relief to farmers whose crops were damaged by Typhoon Danas.
Taisugar said that tenants leasing land in areas certified by the Ministry of Agriculture for disaster relief or low-interest loans can apply for the aid, per CNA. Farmers must submit crop damage assessments to local township and Taisugar offices.
Rent will be waived for one month if losses are 20–40%, two months if 40–60%, and three months if over 60%, per UDN. In exceptional cases, relief may be extended after further review. Payments already made can be credited to next year’s rent or used to extend the lease term.
Taisugar said tenants who wish to terminate their leases due to disaster losses may apply for a refund of their deposits following mutual agreement on the end date. Refunds will be issued without interest.
The state-owned enterprise manages roughly 50,000 hectares of farmland across Taiwan. It has introduced rent relief programs during previous typhoons and droughts as part of its social responsibility mandate.
