TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The live-fire segment of Taiwan’s Han Kuang 41 military exercise began on Wednesday.
The first day focuses on responding to medium- and high-intensity gray zone threats from hypothetical enemy forces, including electronic warfare, disinformation campaigns, and incursions by militia vessels and coast guard ships, per CNA. Navy vessels and mobile radar and missile units are expected to be deployed to predetermined tactical positions.
This year’s live-fire drills will last until July 18 in response to escalating Chinese threats. The exercise will be conducted without a scripted scenario and in a continuous, uninterrupted format, making it the longest Han Kuang drill in history, CNA reported.
In addition to regular forces, the exercise includes the mobilization of reservists. The Army’s 206th Brigade, assigned to defend the Greater Taoyuan area, was fully mobilized on July 5 to begin a 14-day training session, according to Liberty Times. Troops will undergo refresher firearms training, company-level combat drills, and battalion-level operational planning exercises.
Approximately 120 personnel stationed in Taoyuan participated in close-quarters combat training and machine gun and mortar firing drills on Monday. Around 3,000 reservists have been mobilized across the Greater Taoyuan area, including Taoyuan City, Linkou, and Guishan.
