TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Danas has left two dead and over 300 injured.
The Central Emergency Operations Center reported that Danas moved offshore at 6 a.m., with the land warning lifted later in the afternoon as the storm weakened, per CNA. Mountainous areas in nine counties and cities remain at risk of mudslides, including Taichung, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung County, Hualien County, and Taitung County.
As of 8 a.m., 2,270 damage reports had been filed, mostly involving infrastructure, utilities, and fallen trees. The worst-hit areas were Tainan, Chiayi, Chiayi County, Kaohsiung, and Yunlin County.

Two fatalities were reported in Tainan, with 334 injuries recorded nationwide. Tainan had the highest at 165, followed by Chiayi with 55.
One death involved a 60-year-old man surnamed Chen (陳) whose home respirator stopped working during a power outage around 2 a.m. He was rushed to Chi Mei Hospital but was unresponsive upon arrival.
The other occurred at 4:27 a.m. when a man surnamed Chen (陳) and his son were selling fruit from a farm vehicle and collided with a fallen tree, killing the 69-year-old father.

Evacuations took place in 10 counties and cities, affecting 3,483 people. Kaohsiung had the highest number of evacuees at 2,327. As of 7 a.m., 47 emergency shelters had been opened across 10 jurisdictions, housing 580 people.
Flooding was reported in 200 locations, with water still present on roads in Taichung, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung. In addition, flood alerts were in place for one location in Miaoli and four in Taichung.

At its peak, 495,770 households lost power, with 388,419 still without electricity. Water outages affected 68,367 households, with 16,968 awaiting restoration.
Landline phone service was disrupted for 9,653 households, with 7,221 still offline. Telecommunications equipment damage included 907 base stations, with 696 pending repair.
A 100-meter section of Provincial Highway 20 in Kaohsiung between Qinhe and Fuxing was washed out at 5:30 a.m. Officials are still assessing when the road can reopen.
Roughly 8,000 tourists are stranded in Penghu, 2,000 in Matsu, 536 on Green Island, 78 on Orchid Island, and 209 have voluntarily stayed on Xiaoliuqiu. Authorities said supply levels remain sufficient.
