TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The mayor of Tainan, Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲), made a trip to Singapore this week to promote the sale of mangoes and pineapples from Taiwan.
Following the successful reception of Taiwanese pineapples at major Singapore supermarkets, the Tainan mayor is helping to promote the sale of Aiwen and golden mangoes in the country, reported UDN. The Taiwan envoy to Singapore Tung Chen-yuan (童振源) was also in attendance, with the officials saying the popularity of Tainan’s fruits in Singapore represents a huge success for Taiwan’s agricultural industry.
The delegation gave out free samples of fruit to shoppers. People who could answer quiz questions about Tainan and the fruit products were also given small prizes, per CNA.
Singapore is known for its strict quality controls and the Tainan government is pleased that mangoes and other products were able to enter the market. It takes a lot of work get the products way from Tainan’s orchards to consumers in Singapore.
Due to various weather issues, the yield of mangoes from Tainan this year was only 40% compared to 2024. However, Huang said that the fruits this year are especially sweet and he welcomed shoppers to try the delicious fresh produce.
Huang pledged to continue improving quality and overseas marketing strategies to reach even more customers overseas.
Mango season will reach its peak over the next two weeks. Shoppers in Singapore and Taiwan should be on the lookout for Tainan’s mangoes and be sure to enjoy them when they are perfectly ripe.
