TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Time magazine on Thursday unveiled its 100 Most Influential Companies in the World list, with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company once again securing a spot.
Dubbed Taiwan’s “sacred mountain,” the chipmaker was recognized for producing the “brains” behind everything from smartphones to data centers, with surging demand for advanced AI chips driving its Q1 revenue beyond market expectations, per CNA.
In the Titans category, TSMC appeared alongside global names including Berkshire Hathaway, Amazon, and OpenAI. Time also noted how TSMC’s critical semiconductor technology has made it a flashpoint in the US-China tech rivalry, underlining its geopolitical importance in shaping the future of AI.
Other semiconductor firms on the list included Dutch equipment giant ASML. Notable chip players like Nvidia and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics were absent from this year’s rankings.
TSMC is the world’s largest contract chip manufacturer, producing 90% of the world’s most advanced chips. In March, the company announced a major NT$2.9 trillion (US$100 billion) investment in the US to build three advanced chip fabs, two advanced packaging plants, and a research and development center.
