TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – EVA Air will start operating flights to Busan in South Korea in late October, reports said Friday.
The Airbus A321 would ply the route seven times a week or once a day, EVA President Clay Sun (孫嘉明) said. He added that analysis had shown there was considerable demand for more flights between Taiwan and South Korea, the Liberty Times reported.
According to data from the Tourism Administration, 384,516 Taiwanese flew to South Korea between January and March, per CNA. More public holidays also led to growing interest in short-haul overseas flights.
Speaking in Houston, Texas, Sun said that by the end of the year, the frequency of flights between Dallas and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport would increase from three per week to one per day. As a result, EVA would operate 94 flights a week between Taiwan and the US, with the total likely to exceed 100 next year, he said.
Airline officials were visiting Houston to mark the tenth anniversary of EVA flights to that city. The launch in 2015 was the result of more Asian immigrants moving to Texas instead of the West Coast and the rapid economic development of the Houston area.
Sun named Italy as one of the countries EVA hoped to launch more flights to, potentially increasing the number of flights to Milan to one per day. The airline is also ready to add flights to Spain, Northern Europe, and the US, he said.
