TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan is backing Romania’s shift to smart energy and agriculture by installing solar panels on school rooftops and testing semi-transparent panels in vineyards.
At a closing ceremony on Tuesday in Buzau, Taiwan Representative to Slovakia Lee Nan-yang (李南陽) and Deputy Mayor Ionut Apostu marked the completion of two projects, per CNA. Also present was Constantin Damov, head of the Romania-Taiwan Friendship Group, underscoring strong local backing.
One project involved installing Taiwan-made solar panels atop B. P. Hasdeu High School. The school has since achieved full energy self-sufficiency, serving as a model for sustainability and education.
The pilot program is set to expand across Romania, providing both environmental and educational benefits. Students and residents are gaining firsthand experience with renewable energy solutions.
In a separate agriculture project, Taiwanese semi-transparent solar panels were deployed in Romanian vineyards to test agrivoltaics. The system generates electricity while allowing sunlight to support healthy crop growth.
Results showed multiple advantages, including power generation and more stable growing conditions. Lee said Taiwan will deepen its partnerships with Romania and like-minded countries.
