TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks have announced they will host Taiwan Heritage Night at Chase Field on Sept. 20.
The event follows last year’s successful celebration and will feature retired Taiwanese baseball star Chang Tai-shan (張泰山) throwing out the opening pitch. A six-member Taiwanese–South Korean girl group, Genblue, will also perform before the game, per CNA.
At a press conference in Taipei, Chang said he hopes the event will introduce Taiwanese fans to current Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll, whose mother is Taiwanese and father is Irish American.
A former first-round draft pick, Carroll is currently in the midst of an eight-year contract with the Diamondbacks. Chang expressed hope that Carroll would one day consider playing for Taiwan’s national team.
Chang said it was an honor to be selected to represent Taiwan at the event and described the game as an opportunity to share Taiwan’s passion for baseball with the world.
Chen Ming-chu (陳銘駒), general manager of ROF International Sports Marketing, said he was pleased to partner with the Diamondbacks again to host the event, helping introduce aspects of Taiwanese culture to the US public.
Win Huang (黃錫珩), president of the Phoenix Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce, said last year’s event received strong support from the overseas Taiwanese community. He added that with Taiwan’s tech industry expanding investments in Arizona, the growing expatriate population is looking forward to this year’s event.
A total of 1,500 limited-edition ticket packages will go on sale soon via the Diamondbacks’ official website. Each package includes seating in a special “Taiwan Day” zone and a commemorative 2025 jersey.
