TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Presidential Office on Monday announced that July will be designated “National Unity Month,” marking the first integration of Taiwan’s annual Han Kuang military exercise with urban resilience drills.
This year’s live-fire Han Kuang Exercise No. 41 will take place from July 9 to 18, spanning 10 days and nine nights, per Up Media. For the first time, the drills will incorporate urban scenarios to enhance Taiwan’s societal and democratic resilience.
The upcoming fourth meeting of the Whole-of-Society Defense Resilience Committee, scheduled for Thursday, will build on the field exercise held in Tainan during the committee’s third session. The meeting will coordinate both military and civilian efforts in preparation for the joint exercises.
The Presidential Office said the initiative aims to showcase the Taiwanese people’s strong will to defend their homeland and demonstrate a nationwide commitment to resilience and preparedness.
Officials emphasized that national defense is not solely the military’s responsibility—every citizen has a role to play in safeguarding themselves and supporting their communities.
To raise public awareness, the Military News Agency created a promotional visual featuring soldiers, police officers, firefighters, doctors, and nurses. The image highlights whole-of-society participation in civil-military integration.
On July 1, the Ministry of National Defense will hold a press conference to outline the Han Kuang exercise. On July 2, the Ministry of the Interior will provide details about related urban air defense and evacuation drills.
A themed poster has also been produced to promote National Unity Month. It features the month’s title in Mandarin, along with the English slogan “Team Taiwan, Stronger Together,” and the Mandarin slogan “Better Prepared, More Secure.”
The slogan “Team Taiwan” was chosen to reflect strong public identification with the phrase as a unifying national concept. It reinforces the message that collective strength enhances Taiwan’s ability to defend itself and deter conflict.
Multiple versions of the poster will be released after the defense ministry’s July 1 press conference. Public outreach and promotion will continue throughout the month.
