TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Industrial Technology Research Institute is partnering with AUO subsidiary AUO Display Plus to develop displays that blend physical and digital spaces with AI.
The displays will be powered by ITRI’s AI mixed reality technology, which integrates real-time visual sensing and object recognition, per CNA. A built-in camera captures environmental data, allowing the system to identify people and objects, and adapt content accordingly.
A key component is a projection module designed to deliver high-resolution visuals while maintaining visibility of the environment. This allows virtual images to be seamlessly blended into real-world backdrops, enhancing immersion without compromising spatial awareness. The system also enables interaction through gestures.
AUO CEO Ko Fu-jen (柯富仁) said AUO Display Plus strengths in system integration and precision optoelectronics position it to commercialize the technology quickly. He noted that demand is growing for displays that offer intelligent and context-aware features.
Ko added the company is exploring use cases across retail, healthcare, education, and enterprise sectors. By combining AI with advanced display technology, the company aims to expand its international footprint and deliver smart environment solutions with greater interactivity.
