TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is assisting Taiwanese in leaving Israel and Iran amid escalating tensions and ongoing airspace closures.
On Sunday, Taiwan’s representative office in Israel arranged ground transportation for 14 Taiwanese who wished to leave, per CNA. The group traveled by chartered bus through central Israel and arrived safely in Jordan.
Taiwan’s office in Amman then provided further assistance for their return home. Amman International Airport resumed operations on Saturday after a 24-hour closure on Friday.
The ministry also confirmed that nine Taiwanese are currently in Iran. Taiwan’s office in Dubai, which oversees Iran affairs, and the Taiwan Trade Center in Tehran are in close contact with them to offer support to those seeking to leave.
On Friday, MOFA raised its travel advisory for Israel to orange, advising against non-essential travel, per CNA. It also issued a red alert, the highest in its four-tier system, for Iran, urging Taiwanese there to leave immediately.
The ministry said there are about 283 Taiwanese and family members of diplomatic staff in Israel, per Storm Media. All of them are reported to be safe, and offices will continue to maintain close contact with local Taiwanese in case they need assistance.
