TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of Transportation on Wednesday announced new top officials for Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation, Taiwan Railway Corporation, and the Tourism Administration.
As revealed the previous day, former Culture Minister Shih Che (史哲) will lead the country’s high-speed rail operator, per UDN. Critics blasted his lack of experience in the transportation sector, but the government praised his role in city marketing for Kaohsiung, where he served in the city government before moving to Taipei.
His predecessor at the high-speed rail company, Cheng Kuang-yuan (鄭光遠), 71, will move over to run Taiwan Railway. During a long career in transportation, he held prominent positions within the Evergreen Group, including chairing EVA Air.
Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) also announced Chen Yu-hsiu (陳玉秀), 55, as the new director general of the Tourism Administration, the Liberty Times reported. She gained prominence running Taipei’s Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and serves on the board of Taiwan Railway.
