TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan has been ranked as the 12th most educated country by market research group Visual Capitalist.
Taiwan's ranking appeared on a chart released by the company on May 27 titled “The World's Most Educated Countries.” The firm said the countries are ranked on the graphic based on the number and share of adults aged 25-64 who have obtained a bachelor's degree or higher.
Ireland came in first with 52.4% of its adult citizens holding at least a bachelor's degree. Switzerland came in second, followed by Singapore, Belgium, and the UK, rounding out the top five.
With 38.9% of its citizens receiving a bachelor's degree or higher, Taiwan ranked fourth in Asia, trailing only Singapore, Israel, and South Korea. China finished last on the list with only 6.9% of its citizens graduating from a university.
The US stood out with one of the highest proportions of college-educated citizens and ranked third globally in the total number of graduates, with 78 million. India had the largest number of graduates at 139.4 million, but this was only 14.2% of its population.
The data is based on a report released in April by CBRE Research titled "Global Tech Talent Guidebook 2025." The report ranked Taiwan 16th in the number of universities rated among the top 1,000.
