TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan kicked off two days of Defense TTX tabletop military games on Tuesday with participation from top former US and Japanese defense officials.
Former US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Michael Mullen and former US Forces Pacific commander Dennis Blair joined former Japanese Self-Defense Forces Joint Staff chief Iwasaki Shigeru in Taipei for the June 10–11 exercises, per Radio Taiwan International.
Senior Taiwanese participants included retired General Staff chief Lee Hsi-ming (李喜明) and former Army commander Hu Chen-pu (胡鎮埔). The games are organized by the Taipei School of Economics and Political Science and held at National Chengchi University’s Center for Public and Business Administration.
Rather than determine a “winner,” the scenario assumes that by 2030 China’s mix of threats and enticements has failed, provoking an all-out attack on Taiwan. Simulations first examine troop deployment, followed by international political and economic responses.
Organizers said insights from former US and Japanese officials—who bring Indo-Pacific experience—will help assess whether Taiwan’s current preparations are sufficient or require strategic adjustment.
