TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Uber announced Monday plans to acquire Crown Taxi in a move to expand its footprint in the country’s transportation sector.
The ridesharing company said the acquisition will improve working conditions for Crown drivers and help Uber reach more passengers, per CNA. Both brands will continue to operate during the integration to ensure uninterrupted service.
Uber Taiwan General Manager Margarita Peker said the move highlights Taiwan’s status as one of the world’s most mature and competitive ride-hailing markets, per UDN. She described the deal as a long-term investment and deepening of Uber’s ties with local partners.
Peker noted Uber’s decade-long partnership with Taiwan’s taxi industry and expressed optimism about closer collaboration with the government. She said the integration would help offer more transportation options across the country.
Crown Chair Wu Chun-te (吳俊德) welcomed the deal, calling it a new milestone in the company’s history. He said partnering with Uber would create growth opportunities for drivers and the brand while preserving Crown’s commitment to quality.
Crown Taxi was founded in 2011 and began collaborating with Uber in 2017 by dispatching drivers through the platform. Uber said it will work with Crown’s management to ensure a smooth onboarding once the deal is approved.
