TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Three weeks before the deadline, 3,100 Chinese spouses have submitted proof that they have renounced their Chinese household registration.
In April, the National Immigration Agency notified 12,000 Chinese spouses that they must submit proof of renunciation by June 30. The Mainland Affairs Council on Sunday said that in addition to the spouses who have completed the submission process, 2,000 have either submitted an affidavit or requested postponements, per CNA.
The Straits Exchange Foundation has also assisted more than 3,900 spouses with authenticating documents. The council said this demonstrates that most of those subject to the policy are willing to cooperate.
The MAC will hold an information session at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the 6th-floor auditorium of the National Immigration Agency’s Taichung office. The session is co-organized with the NIA, the SEF, and the Cross-Strait Marriages Coordination and Promotion Association.
The MAC said it will explain cross-strait regulations and related policies, while staff from these organizations will provide practical guidance on the document review process, cross-strait document authentication, return travel to China, and handling individual cases. On-site consultations will also be available for processing applications.
The MAC will also hold information sessions from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 23 at the Taitung office of the Cabinet's Eastern Taiwan Joint Services Center, and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 24 at the center’s Hualien location.
