TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Presidential Office Secretary-General Pan Meng-an (潘孟安) attended the 2025 Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference on Thursday.
Peng delivered a speech at the conference and also visited a major liquefied natural gas project on Alaska's North Slope managed by energy developer Glenfarne. US President Donald Trump has promoted the project to Asian allies as a stable energy supply.
The project's first phase is expected to deliver natural gas about 1,230 km from the North Slope to the Anchorage region. The project is expected to not only supply domestic demand but also annually export 20 million tonnes of LNG, per Glenfarne.
On his Facebook page, Peng said it was a critical juncture for AI to be utilized for energy transformation. He said Taiwan is a willing partner for the US, investing in the global layout of high technology, green energy, and supply chain security.
Peng visited the LNG infrastructure project alongside high-ranking officials: US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy, and Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan.
"Despite the cold temperature, we talked enthusiastically about building resilience and responsibility as democratic partners in the face of global climate change and the challenges of authoritarianism."
Peng further elaborated, "The world is changing, and Taiwan has to face trade challenges and international turbulence. We have no choice but to adapt and face these difficulties."
Peng said he was honored to be invited to the conference. And before traveling to Alaska, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) instructed him to "communicate effectively, ensure national interests, and go all out for Taiwan," per CNA.
"This is not just a journey of 7,500 kilometers, it's Taiwan's journey into the world. We have taken the initiative to understand others and firmly choose our direction. I want to thank each of you who firmly believe in Taiwan," Peng wrote.
Peng once again thanked the US for the invitation, adding that President Lai and the government will continue to work hard with the US and the international community in various fields to achieve a diverse and solid partnership.
