TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) gave a commencement address at the graduation ceremony of the Central Police University on Friday.
The Central Police University in Taoyuan’s Guishan District awarded 410 degrees, reported CNA. In his address, Lai focused on the themes of “sincerity and integrity” which are part of the university’s motto.
Lai congratulated the students on their hard work and urged them to remember their commitment to society, reported UDN. He encouraged them to be focused and show integrity.
Lai said that tools used in policing change and he urged officers to maintain an open attitude toward innovation. The president reminded graduates that no one is perfect, and they may need their colleagues and superiors to overcome the challenges they will face.
A robust and well-trained police force is the foundation of public security, Lai said. He thanked all the educators and officers who have helped to improve Taiwan’s police force over the years.
Minister of the Interior Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) was present to congratulate the new graduates. Also on Friday, the ministry said Taiwan will establish a new holiday to honor the nation’s police on June 15.
