TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Amazon Web Services launched its infrastructure region in Taiwan on Friday, allowing businesses and developers to run cloud-based applications locally.
The new AWS Asia Pacific (Taipei) Region gives organizations access to low-latency services like computing, storage, analytics, and AI through data centers based in Taiwan, per CNA. AWS said the move would accelerate innovation and offer Taiwan-based clients better control over their data.
AWS Vice President of Infrastructure Services Prasad Kalyanaraman said the new region would help customers across the Asia-Pacific benefit from AWS’s global platform while meeting local compliance standards. Services will now operate with single-digit millisecond latency, enabling faster deployment and stronger user experiences.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) welcomed the investment, saying it underscores Taiwan’s growing strategic importance in the global tech supply chain, per Anue. He praised the strong partnership between AWS and Taiwan, calling the new region a milestone for digital transformation.
Each AWS Region includes multiple Availability Zones. These are independently powered and secured data centers designed to ensure resilience and low latency across applications.
With the launch of three zones in the Taipei region, AWS now operates 117 Availability Zones in 37 regions.
