TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — To raise awareness ahead of National Oceans Day, the Taiwan Coast Guard is teaming up with cosplayers in Kaohsiung.
On Sunday, the Coast Guard Administration Fleet Branch invited over 70 cosplayers, dancers, and photographers to board the Yunlin frigate at Kaohsiung’s Pier-2 to take photographs and video to promote National Oceans Day, reported CNA. National Oceans Day has been observed since 2019 to coincide with World Oceans Day on June 8.
The promotional cosplay photography session highlighted the Coast Guard’s service to keep Taiwan safe. The CGA hopes that by teaming with online influencers and cosplay enthusiasts, public appreciation for the nation’s commitment to protecting Taiwan’s ocean environments will also increase.
At 4,000 tonnes, the Yunlin frigate is one of the Coast Guard fleet’s largest patrol vessels. It was constructed by the CSBC in Kaohsiung and commissioned in June 2024.
Many of the cosplayers were impressed by the size and appearance of the vessel. A cosplayer who dressed as Asuka Langley Soryu was quoted in a press release and said it was an honor to be invited aboard the Yunlin.
To celebrate National Oceans Day, the CGA invites the public to tour the Yunlin frigate on June 8 at Kaohsiung Harbor from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This year’s theme is “Phenomenal Oceans, Sustainable Coexistence.”
