TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and National Sun Yat-sen University have set up an anatomy and surgical simulation center.
Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Director Wang Chih-chi (王植熙) said on Wednesday the center serves as a learning facility for students from National Sun Yat-sen University's post-baccalaureate medicine and nursing programs. He added that it provides a space for laboratory work and anatomical practice to enhance their clinical experience, per CNA.
National Sun Yat-sen University Principal Li Chih-peng (李志鵬) said the center will also offer courses to deepen medical students’ understanding of human anatomy and strengthen their surgical skills.
Chen Yen-hsu (陳彥旭), dean of the university’s College of Medicine, said the center is equipped with advanced air conditioning and exhaust systems. The facility also features surgical-grade LED lighting and 4K wireless imaging, allowing students to engage in remote learning and observe anatomical dissections and surgical procedures from multiple angles, Chen said.
Additionally, the center is equipped with advanced refrigeration systems for cadaver preservation. It also features a wide range of surgical instruments, anatomical models, and incorporates a 3D virtual anatomy platform.
Students at the center can view the structure of virtual organs by wearing VR headsets. The facility also uses AI to analyze patients’ vital signs, such as heart rate and blood pressure, to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
The hospital said the center will introduce robotics and 3D printing equipment to help students learn the most advanced medical technologies.
Li added that the facility was established with the support of a NT$30 million (US$928,000) donation from Fulin Plastic Industry Holding Co., which covered interior renovations and equipment procurement. Tian Cheng Yuan Man Memorial Hall will handle the memorial arrangements for the donated bodies used in anatomical studies.
