TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — US Representative Bruce Westerman is leading a delegation to Taiwan for a three-day visit as part of a larger trip to the Indo-Pacific region.
The group arrived on Tuesday, according to the American Institute in Taiwan. The delegation will engage with senior Taiwanese leaders on bilateral relations, regional security, and areas of mutual interest. “Their visit underscores the United States’ commitment to its partnership with Taiwan and reaffirms our shared commitment to strengthening a free and open Indo-Pacific,” AIT said.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the delegation will meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and attend a banquet hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍).
Westerman is on the Congressional Taiwan Caucus. He previously visited Taiwan in 2016 and has co-sponsored or supported numerous Taiwan-friendly congressional resolutions and initiatives, according to MOFA.
The foreign ministry said it would continue working closely with friends in Congress and the Trump administration in various sectors to deepen the Taiwan-US partnership.
