TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Nvidia's decision to establish its new overseas headquarters in Taipei reaffirms Taiwan’s growing reputation as a top destination for international talent, National Development Council (NDC) Director Hsieh Chia-yi (謝佳宜) said on Sunday.
Last week, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) announced the company's new Taipei HQ, underscoring Taiwan’s central role in the global AI ecosystem and its close ties with local giants such as TSMC, Foxconn, and Quanta, per CNA.
Minister of Economic Affairs Kuo Jyh-huei (郭智輝) said Huang selected Taipei for its deep talent pool and robust supply chain. He added that the city is likely to attract a wave of digital nomads once Nvidia’s research center is operational.
Hsieh said major companies investing in Taiwan are driving demand for skilled foreign professionals. To build on this momentum, the NDC has drafted a three-part strategy to attract international talent.
First, the council plans to amend the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals. The revisions will broaden eligibility criteria, increase flexibility for digital nomads, simplify permanent residency procedures, and enhance social security coverage.
Regarding digital nomads, Hsieh said the NDC launched a pilot program in January that allows qualified remote workers to stay in Taiwan for up to six months (3+3). The goal, she said, is for these professionals to choose to remain in Taiwan long-term.
The NDC also plans to strengthen links between employers and both international and domestic talent. The strategy includes a focus on attracting overseas Taiwanese professionals to return and contribute to Taiwan’s growing innovation economy.
