TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Pegatron announced Monday it has reduced carbon emissions by approximately 14,200 tonnes through collaboration with its key suppliers.
The initiative is part of the Industrial Development Administration’s carbon data system establishment and low-carbon transformation program, which focuses on building carbon management systems and achieving measurable emissions reductions, per CNA.
Together with suppliers, Pegatron implemented 41 projects, including process optimization, equipment upgrades, and energy transitions. Since 2023, these efforts have reduced emissions equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of 38 Daan Forest Parks.
The company also introduced digital tools to help 23 suppliers complete greenhouse gas inventories and set up carbon registries for improved data management.
Suppliers can upload and verify emissions data through a platform developed by Pegatron and verified by a third party. The system automatically imports emission factors and calculates outputs, significantly improving inventory efficiency.
Pegatron joined the Science Based Targets initiative in 2022 and has committed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to 2021 levels. It aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Chair Tung Tzu-hsien (童子賢) said reducing emissions can help lower future carbon taxes. He added that Taiwan’s tech sector, as a key player in global supply chains, is responding to international sustainability trends by strengthening carbon governance and environmental responsibility.
