TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — French President Emmanuel Macron thanked Taiwan’s Foxconn for its NT$8.54 billion (US$283.21 million) investment to build an advanced semiconductor packaging and testing plant in France.
In a post that was later deleted, Macron on X thanked Foxconn, including a GIF of Taiwan’s national flag, per CNA. He also included the flags of other foreign investors’ nations, including China.
Taiwan Deputy Foreign Minister Francois Wu (吳志中) reshared Macron's post on Facebook. He said that Taiwan was proud of its investment in France.
Furthermore, the French Office in Taipei Director Franck Paris said the move was a development for relations between Taiwan and France. He said the French government has been strongly supportive of Foxconn’s investment.
Foxconn on Tuesday announced the joint venture with French firms Thales and Radiall. The advanced packaging solution would serve the European market in industries such as automotive and defense, while its MOU with Thales will cover the space industry.
It marks the second-largest Taiwanese investment in the country after ProLogium Technology.
