TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Starlux Airlines confirmed on Wednesday it would begin operating non-stop service from Taoyuan to Phoenix, Arizona, in February next year.
Flight details are awaiting approval from the competent authorities, as direct flights coincide with TSMC’s operation of wafer foundries in Arizona. Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and Starlux Airlines Chair Chang Kuo-wei (張國煒) were on hand for the announcement, per Nownews.
Gallego said the new route would be Phoenix's first direct flight to Asia, reflecting a breakthrough for the local economy and a rise in international status. She said TSMC's Phoenix investment has created thousands of high-paying jobs, enhanced the city's reputation as a semiconductor center, and increased demand for air routes.
Starlux Airlines said it was optimistic about business development in Phoenix. It said the city has become a center for innovative industries and has developed a friendly technology industry ecosystem, attracting the arrival of major international technology companies.
As for tourism, Stalux said Phoenix has magnificent desert landscapes and diverse outdoor activities. The airline believes Sky Harbor International Airport could become a gateway to several national parks, attracting adventure-oriented tourists.
Chang said that from the moment he set foot in Phoenix, he knew his airline should invest in this route. He said it is an honor to become the first Asian airline to fly directly to Phoenix.
