TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Intel’s newly appointed CEO, Tan Lip-bu (陳立武), presided over a banquet for suppliers and partners to celebrate the CPU maker’s 40th year in Taiwan on Monday, per PTS.
This marks Tan’s first visit since taking over the troubled technology company. In his speech, he said Intel has worked with Taiwan IT companies over the past 40 years, and it will continue contributing to AI and high-performance computing through new products and strengthened partnerships.
Tan said, “I have two basic, simple goals. It is basically giving the best products. And I refocus the engineering team to report to me, so we make sure we drive the right CPUs and drive the right products, so we can really change the industry.” He also emphasized customer satisfaction.
In addition to two reform directions, Tan emphasized an honest work culture that discusses bad news first. He said if customers are the ones who bear bad news, then his staff will be in trouble.
Tan said that for a corporation such as Intel, there can be too many layers of bureaucracy, leading to communication errors. He seeks to communicate with grassroots engineers.
Tan admitted that changing corporate culture is not easy. He said the right leadership is needed.
During his visit, Tan also mentioned Taiwan’s talents and university research institutes that have made the domestic IT industry successful. For example, he recalled a visit in 1985 with Taiwan's “Godfather of Technology,” Li Kwoh-ting (李國鼎), who invited him to Taiwan to share his experience with US venture capital.
