TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — CPC Corp. said Wednesday it has implemented more than 250 AI-driven projects to enhance operational efficiency.
The company established an AI project promotion office in November 2021. The initiative aims to apply AI to process improvement, equipment monitoring, workplace safety, environmental protection, and operational management. The company anticipates benefits exceeding NT$1 billion (US$32.26 million) from the projects, per CNA.
The company uses AI to optimize processes at its Kaohsiung and Taoyuan refineries to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. It also uses AI to recognize motor current pattern images to detect equipment anomalies and minimize losses from unplanned shutdowns.
CPC Corp. said it has partnered with academic institutions to use AI to detect potential underground pipeline leaks. This year, the company completed leak detection work on the pipeline running from Minxiong Township in Chiayi to Xinying District in Tainan. Detection time has been significantly reduced from several hours to under two minutes, the company said.
CPC Corp. has also been developing drone inspection technology for solar panels since 2023. The drones take thermal images, which AI analyzes to identify defects in solar panels. Last year, the technology received a patent and won an award at the Taiwan Innotech Expo.
The company plans to further integrate AI and drone technology this year. Starting next year, it will deploy AI-powered drones to inspect rooftops and large equipment at its refineries.
CPC Corp. added that it held in-person and online AI training courses from last year through April, with more than 5,000 employees participating. The company also plans to promote an AI talent development program this year through 2029.
