TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — DPP Legislator Wang Mei-hui (王美惠) has proposed amendments to strip public servants or military personnel of their pensions if they express allegiance to China.
Wang also said earlier this month those who openly support armed unification with China would face administrative fines. However, KMT blocked her proposals.
In response, Wang explained in a Facebook post that the amendments would stipulate that civil servants or military personnel who act in allegiance to China could lose their pensions, either in part or in full.
Wang also said that Taiwan’s education system is responsible for guiding the next generation. Thus, she proposed that if a school principal publicly speaks for a hostile country or promotes armed unification, they should face similar punishments.
“National security and loyalty to the democratic system are not issues to compromise on. This amendment is critical to safeguarding Taiwan’s sovereignty,” she said.
