TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Investigators called 11 KMT officials in for questioning following allegations of forgery with recall campaigns targeting a DPP lawmaker, reports said Wednesday.
Similar suspected incidents of already deceased people being listed as signatories also occurred in other parts of the country, including Taipei, Keelung, and Taichung. The target of the Pingtung recall was Indigenous Legislator Saidhai Tahovecahe (伍麗華).
According to the lawmaker, 1,521 signatures for her recall had been rejected due to irregularities, with 202 names belonging to people who had already passed away, the Liberty Times reported. In addition, 140 names did not belong to Indigenous people, disqualifying them from voting in her recall.
Investigators raided eight locations Wednesday in New Taipei, Taichung, Hualien, and Pingtung in connection with the case. The 11 people questioned included the secretary of the KMT party branch for Pingtung County, Hsiao Jung-ming (蕭榮明).
