TAIPEI (Taiwan News)— Construction began Tuesday on a 71-hectare industrial park in Yunlin's Gukeng Township.
Yunlin’s Construction Department said that 45 hectares of the park will be designated for industrial use, with completion expected in 2028. The department estimates that the park will generate an annual output value of NT$10.2 billion (US$334 million) and provide approximately 3,000 jobs, per CNA.
The park is located near the highway, Yunlin Industrial Park, and the Precision Machinery Innovation Technology Park in Chiayi. The department said the facility is set to attract food and feed manufacturing, machinery equipment, cold chain logistics, and other low-pollution industries.
The county government will offer investment incentives to companies locating in the park, including a 50% subsidy on land value tax and a 40% subsidy on property tax for five years, the department said.
Yunlin Magistrate Chang Li-shan (張麗善) said the park will have an ample supply of water and electricity, along with wastewater recycling systems. She hopes the facility will promote the upgrading of local agriculture and the development of the food industry.
Huang Cheng-yung (黃政勇), chair of Yu Hsin Development and Construction Co., the firm in charge of construction, said the development cost is approximately NT$5 billion. He noted the company has developed more than 1,300 hectares of industrial zones in Taiwan and pledged to complete the project on schedule.
Yunlin Industrial Association Chair Lin Wan-tsung (林萬宗) expressed hope that the county government will prioritize local businesses for the new industrial park. He also hopes the park can help address agricultural overproduction in Gukeng Township and that the government will plan dedicated transport routes to connect the park, preventing large trucks from entering villages.
The department added that the park's approval process involved overcoming multiple challenges related to environmental impact assessments. It emphasized that park development prioritizes economic growth while considering environmental protection, air quality, and ecological conservation in its planning.
