TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred in southwest Taiwan at 10:48 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 30.8 kilometers east-southeast of Chiayi County Hall at a depth of 10.7 kilometers, the CWA said.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7 to measure how strongly a quake is felt at a specific location. The quake registered an intensity level of 4 in Chiayi County and Tainan.
A level 3 was recorded in Chiayi, Kaohsiung, and Yunlin County. A level 2 was reported in Nantou County and Changhua County.
An intensity level of 1 was measured in Taitung County, Pingtung County, Hualien County, Taichung, Penghu County, and Miaoli County.
