TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) is reportedly set to finalize the location of the company’s new Taiwan headquarters during his visit this week.
Huang is reportedly visiting Taiwan this week to attend events related to Computex Taipei 2025, where he may announce the decision, per CNA. Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan are all vying to host the new corporate office.
Initial reports indicated that Huang would arrive in Taiwan on Monday evening via private jet. Media gathered at Songshan Airport business aviation center starting that afternoon.
However, only Huang’s wife and children arrived. Unconfirmed reports suggest Huang is scheduled to visit TSMC on Thursday and host a banquet for suppliers on Saturday. Nvidia has not confirmed this itinerary.
At a press conference during CES in the US in January, Huang said that Nvidia’s current office in Taiwan is too small and that the company is finding a new location. He hinted an announcement could be made at Computex.
Initial reports suggested that Nvidia was eyeing Taipei's Nangang District. The company had surveyed two parcels of land: the CR1 redevelopment project site owned by Taipower and a former railyard operated by Taiwan Railway Corporation.
Other rumored locations include the Taipei Expo Park and military land adjacent to Songshan Airport. Both plots are over three hectares, meeting Nvidia's space requirements.
The Taipower CR1 redevelopment project is being led by a joint venture between the Honhui Group and the JSL Construction & Development Company, which was selected as the preferred applicant. Upon completion, Taipower will retain ownership of a commercial building with 30,000 to 40,000 ping (99,000 to 132,000 square meters) of floor space.
The building is expected to meet Nvidia's needs, featuring top-tier green and smart building certifications. However, Honhui said it has no information regarding Nvidia's plans to establish its Asia headquarters at this location.
Nangang, in addition to being close to Nvidia's existing Neihu office, is a major transportation hub connecting high-speed rail, rail, MRT, and intercity buses. It provides easy access to Neihu Technology Park, Nangang Software Park, and Hsinchu Science Park. Nangang Exhibition Center frequently hosts international trade shows, which could help Nvidia expand its operational reach.
New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) said in January that he had a video call with representatives from Nvidia's US headquarters, and the city’s economic development department offered a selection of land parcels. According to an official, New Taipei proposed public and private land across six sites in the districts of Linkou, Xindian, and Tamsui, each covering an area of more than three hectares.
One plot near the Mitsui Outlet Park in Linkou was reportedly considered. However, due to heavy traffic during peak hours and the inconvenient commute, it may be eliminated.
Jenny Liou (劉美華), chair of real estate consultancy Repro Knight Frank, told CNA that Taiwan’s commercial real estate transactions reached NT$276.4 billion in 2024. This marks a 46% increase year-over-year and a record high in recent years.
Liou added that Nvidia’s expected establishment of a Taiwan headquarters in 2025 would boost demand for office space. She said the AI and software sectors are expected to drive this growth.
